Wildlife – In Memoriam… “Flower”
In Memoriam: Flower
1992-2009
Born: Bar X Ranch, near Clark, Wyoming
Travels: early 1990s – Bear River State Park
1996 – Transferred to Hot Springs State Park, to “challenge” his predecessor, Tuffy
Characteristics:
* Second largest captive purebred bull in the United States in his prime.
* Height: 7 feet tall at top of hump
* Weight: 3000 pounds (top weight)
* Horns: 22.5” long
Because of his mild manner, his progeny were sought after.
Bison were first brought to Hot Springs State Park in 1916. There are currently 21 in the herd. (Seven additional calves were sold in late 2009.) It is one of the few purebred public herds in the state.
